This significant gift bolsters our mission at the Jonnycake Center for Hope, where we strive to meet the basic needs of community members in South Kingstown and Narragansett.
Over the past five years, our organization has evolved from a modest food pantry and thrift store into a comprehensive community service provider. Serving 2,000 residents facing challenges such as food insecurity, heating expenses, displacement, and a desire for healthier lives, we’ve expanded our impact. The Jonnycake Market, our food pantry, now serves 900 people monthly, witnessing a notable increase since last November.
Currently, we’re renovating affordable housing units to accommodate eight families, with plans to host nineteen families under the Jonnycake roof. Our commitment extends to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing after-school enrichment programs for elementary students and establishing a youth center by the summer of 2024.
In the past year alone, we’ve distributed approximately $100,000 in emergency funds for housing, heat, electricity, and transportation. Despite the growing need, your contribution will go a long way in helping seniors on fixed incomes and low-wage families avoid the hardships of winter, ensuring they have a warm place to live.
